Description

Optimizing Outcomes For Patients With Lung Cancer:

Checkpoint Inhibitor Therapy in NSCLC, Patient Coaching, and Evaluation of Patient Reported Outcomes

Lung cancer continues to be the major cause of cancer-related death worldwide. The majority of patients are diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with approximately half of those patients presenting with metastatic disease. The introduction of checkpoint inhibitors into treatment algorithms for patients with NSCLC have provided significant benefits to overall survival, long lasting response times and manageable safety profiles. However, beyond therapy concerns, patient reported outcomes (PROs) collected from those with lung cancer demonstrate a significant burden on emotional health and lifestyle limitations. The utilization of PROs has been shown to improve patient-clinician communication and has been associated with improved perceived quality of life of patients, yet PROs are not always collected, and the data are often not acted upon. In this educational symposium, experts in the field will discuss checkpoint inhibitors in the management of NSCLC and the benefits of PROs and digital health coaching in patients with lung cancer. They will also provide guidance to simplify the collection of PROs and how to effectively utilize the data.
