The Fontan Patient in the 21st Century
A two half-day virtual symposium where we examine important topics in early life management of the single ventricle patient, preoperative evaluation, operative and acute postoperative care, longer-term surveillance and late complications of the Fontan patient. While there have been major advances in the care of the Fontan patient over the past 5 decades resulting in improved early survival, we continue to face challenges both in early and late outcomes with the evolution of heart failure and comorbidities associated with this imperfect circulation. Our symposium explores standards of care, risk factors and relevant issues as well as newer innovations that hold the promise of improved longer-term outcomes for this growing population.
