If you or someone you know has pancreatic cancer, planning for the future can feel difficult. You may have heard of the term ‘palliative care’, but feel unsure about what this means. You may feel unclear on who is there to support you towards the end of life.

‘Palliative care’ means providing specialist care to manage symptoms such as pain, as well as emotional and practical support. The aim is to help you live as well as possible for as long as possible. Some people find the thought of palliative care upsetting, but these services aren’t just for people at the end of their life. They are available at any point during treatment or care.

We’re pleased to be joined by two consultants in palliative medicine for a free evening webinar where we will be discussing palliative care, including planning for the end of life. There will be a Q&A session at the end so you can ask any questions you might have.

We will be covering:

  • Palliative care – what is it, and what are the benefits?
  • Who is involved in delivering palliative care?
  • Communication, including what to expect and ask for from healthcare professionals, and how to talk to loved ones about the future
  • Advance care planning (ACPs) – making plans for your future care

The end of life will be touched upon throughout, but will be discussed in detail towards the end of the webinar. We will make it clear when this section of the presentation is starting, to allow people who would prefer not to hear this to leave and rejoin for the Q&A. This section will cover:

  • Advance care planning in more depth
  • What to expect as the condition deteriorates
  • The very end of life, including identifying when this is happening and what this might look like, choosing where to be, who can provide support, and practical issues around care, medications and equipment
